Juventus lost a bit of ground at the top end of the Serie A table this past week. Their 3-2 defeat at Sampdoria allowed Napoli to pull away, with Inter Milan leapfrogging the Old Lady into second. It is now time to see just how the strikers performed in the league, and which top five forwards make it into this list.
In fifth place is Juventus forward Paulo Dybala. He scored one of Juventus’ two goals at Sampdoria, and despite his team losing out he continued to prove just how big his presence in the first team really is.
At a 10m valuation Euro Fantasy Leaguers could be forgiven for having overlooked his inclusion, but his four points this past weekend take his season’s total to 52 – so he’s definitely worth another look!
Next up was Sampdoria forward Duván Zapata. He bagged a goal himself in that 3-2 win over Juve, but at just 2.5m he represents a much cheaper option than the aforementioned Dybala. He has literally half the points for the current campaign as well – 26 so far. Half the points for quarter of the price means he is just as good a consideration as Dybala, especially if you are struggling to make your mind up somewhere else on the park.
In third place was Bologna forward Simone Verdi. The 5.5m-rated striker had a good weekend, but his four points didn’t come through traditional means for a striker. Normally that tally means a goal scored – but Verdi provided two assists for his club’s 3-2 win at Hellas Verona.
He needs to earn more points really, having accrued only 17 for the season so far. This was his second outing in a row where he earned points though after a fairly lengthy spell without making any real contribution, so perhaps his season is on an upward trend now.
In second place we have Fiorentina forward Federico Chiesa. Having only broken through into the Fiorentina side last year, Chiesa’s 4m valuation seems relatively modest. He’s bagged 11 points so far for the season, with four of them coming this weekend after he scored the equaliser during Fiorentina’s 1-1 draw at SPAL, which was discussed during the latest episode of the Euro Fantasy League Podcast.
Fiorentina have been on a relatively poor run of form lately and so Chiesa could be looked to in order to provide some hope of getting the season back on track. He could be worth a consideration to transfer in for sure.
Finally we have Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, who tops this weekend’s Serie A strikers charts. He is a bit pricey to be sure – 10m of your hard earned will be needed to get him into your team. However, he has managed 55 points this season, and so it could well be a wise investment.
Inter have proven themselves to be a fine team under the current regime, and Icardi is literally leading from the front. He tops the weekend’s chart with eight points scored, thanks to scoring both goals in Inter’s 2-0 home win against Atalanta to move second in the Serie A table.
